South Island Mechanical is a Victoria-based commercial HVAC/R and mechanical service contractor serving Greater Victoria, Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

We provide service, maintenance, and system support for commercial HVAC/R, refrigeration, geothermal, and boiler systems. Our work is grounded in preventative maintenance and supported by responsive service and project-based solutions. Our Commitment to Safety

South Island Mechanical maintains a WorkSafeBC-compliant Health and Safety Program that is regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current regulations, best practices, and field experience.

Training and Technician Qualifications

Our technicians are qualified, experienced, and committed to ongoing safety and technical education. Training requirements are maintained in alignment with Refrigeration Workers UA Local 516 union standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Training and qualifications include:

  • Red Seal certified technicians
  • Union Local 516 training standards
  • Ongoing safety training and skills development
  • Task-specific training for commercial mechanical systems
  • Awareness and training for confined spaces, gas systems, and mechanical rooms

Technicians also complete safety training through UA Local 516, which includes:

  • Fall arrest and working at heights
  • Asbestos awareness
  • Confined space awareness
  • Incident and injury reporting procedures
  • Elevated platform operation
  • Lockout and energy isolation procedures
  • WHMIS
  • Hot work procedures
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
  • Respirator training
  • Counterbalance forklift operation
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements

Hazard Identification and Risk Management

Every job is assessed to identify potential hazards before work begins. Our team follows established procedures to manage risks commonly encountered in commercial environments, including:

  • Working at heights
  • Confined space awareness
  • Gas safety and mechanical system controls
  • Safe material handling and equipment use

Hazard controls are communicated clearly to both technicians and site contacts as required.

Incident Prevention and Reporting

Business and Contractor Licensing

We maintain all required business and contractor licences to perform commercial HVA/R and mechanical work in the regions we serve.

  • City and Municipal Business Licences. Held and maintained for all municipalities and service areas in which we operate.
  • TSBC Gas Contractor Licence. LGA0206815 Licensed to perform gas fitting and gas system work in accordance with Technical Safety BC requirements.
  • TSBC Boiler and Pressure Vessel Certification. Registered for applicable boiler and pressure vessel work, including REF (LBP0210302) and Class B (LBP0210303) systems.
